Grant-based giving is one of the best ways to raise funds for your organisation. But competition is hotting up, with some foundations funding less than 5% of the applications they receive. Every word counts, and you need to do everything you can to make sure your application goes the distance.
This course is suitable for people who are just starting out on their grant writing journey, or are looking for a chance to refine essential skills.
Content will cover:
- The role of grant fundraising and of the grant writer.
- Key traits of different types of applications (e.g. different funding levels).
- The ground rules for writing great applications.
- Top tips: how to build a freestyle concept note.
- Top tips: how to make the most of awkward application forms.
- Understanding your audience, are you ready to think like a funder?
- How and where to find calls/project applications (nationally, regionally and internationally).
This session is given by Jennifer Ruthe, freelance charity copywriter and fundraising specialist at Written by Jen, with over ten years of experience in fundraising in several international non-profit organisations. Jennifer will share her expertise and tips, but will also go into interaction with the participants.
Feedback from participants of 'a fundraiser's guide to grant writing':
"I could have listened to Jennifer for many more hours as the session was not only informative on a theoretical level, but there were many practical examples and enough space for individual work."
"Jen Ruthe provided us very useful theory and insights, as well as concrete tools and how to's. As an experienced fundraiser but newbee in grant writing, I feel I have now enough knowledge to start supporting my philantropy colleagues with their grant writing.
